About Indore
A renowned seat of education and the only city in the country to host IIM and IIT together, Indore is the largest city and the commercial capital of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated on the Malwa Plateau, just north of the Vindhya Range and enjoys ambient climate through the year. The name Indore originated from the Indreshwar temple constructed in 1741 by local landowners and the name Indore is due to this deity. Indore has been seat of Holkar dynasty that earned tremendous respect for the exceedingly good work done by Rani Ahilyabai, the former queen.
The city has a rich cultural and sports heritage that engulfs names like Lata Mangeshkar, M.F. Hussain, N.S. Bendre, Kishore Kumar, Captain C.K. Naidu, and Narendra Hirwani.
Rated amongst fastest growing tier II cities, Indore is flanked by two major industrial areas- Dewas and Pithampur on either side. About 180 kms from Bhopal, the state capital, Indore enjoys excellent road, rail and air connectivity and will soon host an international airport. The tourism gets boost from traffic to Mandu & Maheshwar (both about 90 kms.) as well as Onkareshwar & Ujjain (both about 60 kms.). The city has big names in health care industry like Bombay Hospital, CHL-Apollo Hospital and in hospitality industry like Hotel Fortune Landmark, Country Inn, Sayaji, Lemon Tree and Radisson (opening soon), etc.
There are a number of educational institutes in Indore which are amongst the best in the country. Starting with old princely public school like Daly College to Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya- one of the most renowned universities of India and MGM medical college that has given best of the medical practitioners, and Design Institute of India is the best design college in MP are all based here. Then there are a host of other medical, engineering and management colleges coupled with mushrooming entrance coaching classes in Indore that attract huge number of students from all the corners of the nation making Indore a center of learning.
